An exhibition at Kaapo Gallery presents photographic and video art by artist Anni Kinnunen (b. 1978). While the artist poses as the model for the pictures herself, these are not conventional self-portraits. Kinnunen’s works depict moments that carry a sense of unreality, wavering between the familiar and the unfamiliar. The photographs, which possess a dream-like quality, show a figure that is reminiscent of imagery from the fantasy genre.
While photography is Kinnunen’s primary art form, she creates installations and video art too. Works by this artist from central Finland, who lives and works in Oulu, have been showcased in several galleries and group exhibitions, in Finland and internationally.
