Graphic artist and painter Tapio Haili (1927–1986) was truly prolific. His artworks that are rich in colour, pieces inspired by Hyvinkää and atmospheric travel pictures form the backbone of this exhibition.
Inspired by nature, Haili brought landscapes, particularly those of Lapland, to life in his artworks. The islands of the Gulf of Finland with their shores were also close to his heart as a subject.
Through his roles as a founding member of a local artists’ association and a teacher at Hyvinkää School of Arts – and later as its rector – Tapio Haili had a lasting impact on the city’s art scene. Over the course of several decades, Haili also shared his knowledge of printmaking with hundreds of pupils.
