MULTIFORMES- Arthandicrafts with stories of Lapland
Irene Kangasniemis and Oda-Liv Koivistos arthandicrafts with stories in the Regional museum of Lapland Arktikum.
The multi-faceted nature is a functional entity, which humans form a small part of. The modern person does not have time to stop and quietly reflect. These pieces of art aim to convey the importance of the relationship between humans and nature, and what we can learn from nature. Nature is also the source of myths and the foundation of cultures. Stories help us understand reality, providing context to the past and the future, as well as other cultures. The exhibition attempts at invoking thoughts on lessons learned from nature and how to apply these lessons for a more tolerant, humane future.
The pieces has been created with various techniques, mainly with materials found in the nature of Lapland. By using renewable or recycled materials, the artists wish to promote sustainable development and sensible use of natural resources.
Irene Kangasniemi and Oda-Liv Koivisto were brought together by the Storyteller course organised at the University of Lapland in 2009. The encounter blossomed into friendship and collaboration that has lasted for years.
