The preservation of antiquities, environments with cultural historical value, and other cultural property has been appointed to the National Board of Antiquities, Ministry of the Environment, municipalities and museums within their respective fields.

Architectural heritage of national significance is the responsibility of the Unit for Architectural Heritage of the National Board of Antiquities. Each year the Board also grants subsidies for the restoration of buildings of cultural historical value on a national scale. Advice on provincial and local built heritage sites is also provided by provincial museums.
